Elements have never been consistently applied in the Final Fantasy games. Though the early titles used the four ancient elements (wind, water, fire and earth) as the basis for their crystal-focused storylines, only fire could be cast be players, alongside ice and lightning. The three of those have been consistently used in every game, usually with three-tiers of spell (eg – Fire, Fira and Firaga). Others, most commonly the other three classical elements and holy, have subsequently shown up in most, but can usually only be inflicted through the use of a summon or through singular spells that don’t follow this structure, such as Aero or Quake.

Whenever earth has been featured, Titan has never been far away. Since debuting in Final Fantasy III, he has appeared in every title bar VI (replaced by Midgardsomr), VIII (replaced by the Brothers, Sacred and Minotaur), X (where earth was non-existent) and XII (where all of the usual summons were replaced), but has been surplus to requirements in most of them given the general uselessness of his chosen element, which hardly any enemy is ever weak to and to which flying enemies are automatically immune.

His design has often felt like an afterthought, simply being a generic giant (contrasting somewhat with the Greek mythological depiction) with grey or brown-tinged skin. The thrill of unleashing an earthquake on enemies can never be understated though.
