2. Does It Replace The Original?

No, and despite it being called a "Remake", I don't think Square Enix want it to.

FF7R works as a celebration of everything you love about Final Fantasy VII, IF you know what that is.

If not, it'll largely still introduce you to a world of eco-terrorists, love triangles, evil super-soldiers and genetic experimentation. I'd emphatically say the original delivers all of these elements better, and is a better game overall, but Remake has found its place as a phenomenal supplementary package.
