Final Fantasy 7 Remake: 10 Bosses We Can't Wait To See

3. Ultima Weapon

Midgar Zolom

Another largely optional boss, the one mandatory battle against Ultimate is fought on the ground at Mideel, but the potential for an amazing battle in Remake, lies with the airborne battles fought by choice if you want to actually defeat this boss.

In the original, although there is some excitement to be had in pursuing Ultimate around the world map, ramming him with the airship and eventually forcing it into battle, the fights themselves don’t behave any differently to the fight you have against it on the ground.

In Remake, similar to Emerald, there is the potential for so much more.

I’d like to see Cid’s airship, the Highwind, much more involved in the battle. Imagine pursuing Ultimate over the skies of Cosmo Canyon and Midgar, swooping down over the cities, back up into the air, firing missiles to slow Ultimate down, dodging attacks it fires back, before finally drawing alongside it and managing to battle it further with long range attacks and magic spells.

This battle really has the potential to be one of the most different from the original, but for all the right reasons.
