It's fair to say that, as universally loved though Final Fantasy VII is, its story - or at least, its translation - is not necessarily the best (or should that be 'are not necessarily the best'?).

A whole lot of subtext and content was lost when the game migrated from Japan in 1997, and some of the narrative was, to put it mildly, gibberish. Obviously, a lot of the more egregious nonsense will be ironed out in the remake, though creative director Tetsuya Nomura has also promised that, with the game stretched across numerous episodes, the story will go into greater depth in certain areas - without altering any of the key narrative beats.

Your mileage may vary on whether this is something to be celebrated or not.
