Back in the days of the PS1, a game being spread across multiple discs was often mis-correlated with its length, when really it was just an indicator of resources.

More often than not, the optical real-estate was gobbled up by chunky FMV sequences. Final Fantasy in particular was revered for its stunning, streaming set pieces - and they were also the reason the PlayStation trilogy comprised eleven discs in total.

Game length still isn't dictated by number of discs - and with digital distribution platforms increasingly the norm, it's less relevant than ever - but in an era of high-capacity Blu-Ray storage, filling two of the big blighters still indicates a project developed on a colossal scale.

It also indicates you'll need to clear your hard drive for every spare inch of storage. Final Fantasy VII Remake, it has been confirmed, will require such a spring cleaning come March. Buy a new book for that install time...

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
