Final Fantasy 7 Remake Review - 6 Ups & 5 Downs

2. Fan Service, And One GENIUS Thing You Won't See Coming

I'm staying away from spoilers completely, but one of the many reasons I think this works better as a celebration of Final Fantasy VII - or FF7 ephemera - is some of the fan service.

There are things here that feel as though Square Enix literally combed through forums across the last 20 years, and deliberately picked out what fans cited as "No way... there's no way they'll ever do that."

I won't spoil what these are, but from boss battles to teasing future plot points, referencing character beats or the wider FF7 fandom, if you've been on this ride for the past couple of decades, they're more than aware of how to pay that off.

Atop this - and it's the biggest spoiler in the game so I'll keep it vague - there's a new inclusion to the narrative, that directly addresses both the existence of the FF7 Remake, and where they go from here.

Not going any further than that for now, but the final hours are something I absolutely adored, and will be dissected for years to come.
