Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sequel - 10 Bold Predictions
9. Sephiroth's Self-Awareness Is Explained
Sephiroth plays quite a large role in the remake, appearing regularly in visions to Cloud despite him being unseen in the Midgar part of the original game.
His appearance as the final boss initially seems to be fan service given his popularity as a character, but reading between the lines it would appear that he is completely aware of the fact that by manipulating Cloud and company into defying destiny through their defeat of the Whisper Harbinger, he has created a timeline where he is no longer fated to fall at their hands.
It is currently unknown as to how Sephiroth became aware of this fact, or if it was actually the real iteration of him fought in the game’s concluding battle. In the original timeline, the true Sephiroth was in stasis at the Northern Cave until a third of the way through disc two.
Any versions of him seen before that (including the one that kills Aerith) are copies taken over by his will. The version seen in Shinra Headquarters in the remake - that takes possession of Jenova’s body - is clearly shown to be one of these hooded and tattooed experiments, just to confuse things further.
Given that the first part of the story covered by Part II will be Cloud’s ‘unreliable narrator‘ flashback of the infamous Nibelheim incident, expect Sephiroth to be fleshed out much further, with subtle hints laid as to how his master plan differs from his original counterpart and how it was conceived.
