Final Fantasy 7 Remake Sequel - 10 Bold Predictions
8. Zack Becomes Playable
Perhaps the most shocking element of the remake’s ending is the appearance of Zack Fair, Cloud’s brother figure that died before the events of the game and bestowed him with his iconic Buster Sword.
A breakout character, Zack wasn’t used as much
more than a plot device originally, merely being the person who Cloud had
assumed the memories of after the pair of them were experimented on by Hojo.
His popularity led to him being given a wider role in the expansion of the
series, with his career as a SOLDIER explored in the 2007 PSP spin-off Crisis
Core.
The defeat of the Whisper Harbinger seems to undo history, as the ending of Crisis Core is shown almost shot for shot, albeit without the pivotal moment where Zack passes away in Cloud’s arms.
If the past has indeed been changed and Zack remains alive, the implication of this (as well as the consequences of whatever other historical events have been undone) will need to be explored and explained in some detail by Part II’s narrative.
Assuming that he is now alive, a playable Zack can be expected in some shape or form, whether he joins the party on their quest or if a flashback or side story shows the events between his previous death in the past and the present.
This is an intriguing prospect, as are the implications on the potential Cloud/Aerith relationship given that Zack was her love interest first.
