Final Fantasy VII Remake LEAK: Everything We Learned

2. Expanded Roles For Minor Characters

Tetsuya Nomura is very good at drawing zips, and very good at drawing spiky hair. He's not so good at keeping his promises.

Shortly after the Final Fantasy VII Remake was first announced, the creative director explicitly stated that the reimagining would not be littered with any new characters, absolute music to the ears of those who had suffered through the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII's litany of quite drastic sub-fanfic extras.

He's since reneged on that vow somewhat, and it looks like there will indeed be some additional anime-inspired archetypes polluting what was already a perfect game. Perhaps more forgiving, there'll also be expanded roles for minor characters the original game didn't quite have the time of a coherent translation to explore in great detail.

Shin-Ra's puppet Mayor Domino, pictured, pretty much had two lines in the original. He now looks like Sir Ben Kingsley and presumably will be fleshed out a little. From the leak, we also saw Tifa's Sector 7 crush Johnny, previously an entirely missable character, taking a more central role in proceedings. It seems damn inevitable will learn loads of tedious details about each and every one of the Turks too, given their expanded role in Crisis Core.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
