Final Fantasy VII Remake LEAK: Everything We Learned

3. It'll Be Split Into Chapters

Prior to Final Fantasy XIII, every game in the series played as one concatenated whole, boasting a narrative stretching without pause from the opening cutscene to end titles. Whilst less cinematic (and more practical back in the day), the overall illusion was of one grand adventure, even if the actual content was functionally identical.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to do away with that, as confirmed by this bizarre screenshot. If you can drag your eyes away from President Shin-Ra (or Tom Selleck, if you prefer) being straightened up by a pair of nude placeholder NPCs, you'll notice the caption in the corner. Chapter 7! Given President Shinra's chest is introduced to a very long piece of metal relatively early in the game, presumably there are going to be a lot of chapters - if it's completed before the end of time, that is.

Does breaking FFVII into chapters spoil the feel a bit? Yes, though since it is already being split into Episodes, we don't suppose it matters too much.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
