15. Final Fantasy III
FFIII owes most of its praise due to the job system, which it introduced first. FFIII allowed players to switch character jobs at any given time, providing plenty of freedom to mix and match jobs as you saw fit. FFIII suffered from the same issues the older games had, namely a simple story and graphics, but the gameplay shone through. Later remakes provided names to the characters with background information to boot, enhancing the experience slightly. A good game overall, and sometimes, a simple story is better than a bad one.
