Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns: 6 Things We Learned From The Demo

6. Stunning CGI As Usual

If there€™s one area where Square-Enix as a studio rarely goes wrong, it€™s in boasting some of the most gorgeous and highly budgeted CGI rendered scenes in gaming. Realistically speaking, the stunning graphical capabilities are probably the only reason anyone actually finished the original Final Fantasy XIII. Lightning Returns is no exception to the rule and packs quite an impressive punch, especially considering that next generation consoles have considerably raised the bar, and have already made some of the last generation€™s biggest accomplishments €“ The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto 5 €“ feel outdated in comparison. The demo begins by showing off one - of what will assuredly be many - of these phenomenal looking CGI scenes, making effective use of a masked ballroom party atmosphere. Lightning then barges into the festival and winds up in a ridiculously overblown anime-stylised fight with Snow. As absurd and drawn out as the fight is though, it offers multiple opportunities for the characters to bust off colourful spells like Blizzaga and other visually appealing attacks. It doesn€™t make a lick of sense, but it€™s a clear indication that the game will graphically impress gamers.
