Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns: 6 Things We Learned From The Demo

5. Outworld Social Media Interaction

Square-Enix occasionally has a habit lately of not understanding what people want, and this one of those cases. No one on the planet has ever become so engrossed into a scene or a battle that they felt obligated to actually snap a screenshot for the world of Facebook and Twitter to see. That€™s exactly what this feature amounts to though; bombarding all your social media pals with 7,000 pictures of Lightning posing during a battle. You can also upload your boss battle star rankings and time completions up to a leaderboard, which will additionally net you some alternate outfit for the retail game, but on the whole it feels like a completely superfluous feature that no one will actually use. These are similar features already universally in place for PS4/Xbox One games, but unless something truly unforgettable or hilarious happens, no one even bothers. Features existing just for the sake of having features aren€™t a good approach to game design, especially when they€™re hackneyed attempts at squeezing in extra social media purposes. The only other aspect to the Outworld server involves the player coming across pedestrians that have nicknames written above their heads in blue, where interacting with them allows you to see pictures they€™ve taken. Apparently you can buy items too, but the process was a mystery to me and something that will hopefully be better explained in the retail game. As a whole however, none of this appears worthwhile or strengthening to the experience in any way, shape, or form.
