1. Ardyn Is The Real Hero
Ardyn isn't actually trying to destroy the world, but force the One True King prophecy to come true.
All the events of the game require Ardyn. He leads the bros to the Astrals, informs them of the lore, and helps Noctis discover the true power of the crystal. He also insists on not killing Noctis before he has gained the power of the kings. If he wanted to ensure his victory against the gods, he would have killed Noctis before he reached the crystal – and he had ample opportunity to do so.
Ardyn was the man chosen to heal the world of the Starscourge. However, it's not as simple as the Cosmology tales make out. Ardyn accepts the power to absorb the Starscourge – but that's not enough. He has to embody it. He plays the part of the villain so that Noctis won't hesitate to kill him, fulfilling the prophecy and cleansing the world once and for all.
Ardyn achieves the goal he was originally tasked by the Astrals by accepting his fate as the embodiment of the Starscourge, guiding Noctis to the crystal, and allowing him to overcome him.
