The Final Fantasy series has always been synonymous with epic combat, featuring a variety of massive creatures fighting spiky-haired heroes on the battlefield. Traditionally, the series made use of a turn-based combat system, but recent entries have significantly shaken up the formula. Final Fantasy XII was notable for its real-time Gambit system that divided fans down the middle, while Final Fantasy XIII's Paradigm system was a trimmed down adaptation of the Active Time Battle system introduced in Final Fantasy IV. The latest entry is looking to be the most action-orientated in the franchise yet, with combat looking more like a third-person action title than anything else. Battles are similar to the Kingdom Hearts style of gameplay, giving players the ability to take control of vehicles and switch weapons on the fly.
