Final Fantasy XV: 6 Ups & 8 Downs

4. Women Are Still Troublingly Depicted

It's Final Fantasy, so of course, there are going to be at least a few eyebrow-raising depictions of women.

At least the discomforting focus on jailbait is toned down this time, but considering that the first woman you meet, Cindy, is a busty mechanic wearing an impractical string bikini and hot pants, it doesn't set a particularly promising tone from the outset.

Iris meanwhile feels like a fan service character rather than an actual person, Lunafreya has a surprisingly small role in the game, and it's only really the warrior Aranea who proves to be both strong and interesting, and yet sadly she doesn't stick around for very long.

And of course, Aranea has to be kitted out in a figure-hugging, low-cut outfit rather than something more practical for a fighter. While this approach shouldn't surprise anyone familiar with the series, can't we strive to pander to 12-year-old boys a little less in video games these days?
