First Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Gameplay Details REVEALED
The teaser trailer was just the tip of the iceberg.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla finally got its official reveal with a glorious cinematic trailer yesterday. While it successfully established the mood and theme of the sequel though, there was no gameplay to be seen, but thankfully Ubisoft has been doing the rounds revealing a whole bunch about what players should expect from the studio's Viking epic.
In extensive interviews with both Game Informer and Eurogamer, the producers on the project have revealed how the upcoming title differs and compliments previous AC instalments.
First and foremost, the game's setting mostly comprises a Dark Ages England, but with some of the action, especially in the introduction, taking place in Norway. The three major cities will be London, Jorvik and Winchester, with the Kingdoms of Northumberland, East Anglia, Mercia and Wessex acting as the main factions.
In this open world, players will now have a home base. A Viking settlement that players can build acts similarly to the camp system in Red Dead Redemption 2, with missions usually starting and ending there.
In an interview with Eurogamer, a producer commented on the change, saying:
"Instead of exploring one territory, then moving on to another and having no real opportunity or reason to return, the settlement changes the structure. So you’ll go on an adventure and then be encouraged to come back to your settlement. It changes the way we’re playing the game we’re making - at least, that’s the bet we’re making."
The game will also have much more detailed RPG elements than usual, with the impact of your actions playing out in how this settlement changes. This will be compounded with even more customisation, as you can tailor your male or female Viking hero with war paint and different hairstyles.
This desire to create a more immersive experience comes in the new skill tree as well, which has been described as a "skill graph", with a more limited focus on number crunching and instead a higher emphasis on learning new abilities and upgrading unique gear.
On top of this, players will be able to dual wield weapons and throw axes like they're in God of War. The Viking dream isn't finished without that.
