Football Manager 2013: 20 Free Agents You Should Sign

And finally, on to the strikers - arguably the most valuable free transfers in the game thanks to the value of goals to a team's fortunes in the league. Of the available players, you're looking at mostly veterans, some a lot better than others, and most who you probably scroll past without a second glance. But there are a couple who fit the bill as free alternatives to filling spaces in the squad...

19. John Carew

Age: 32 Nation: Norway A battering ram of a player, Carew's size and heading ability would still make him a reasonable addition to any squad with good crossers of the ball, or who want to play a more direct style with a target man. Not likely to score you twenty goals, but he will pop up with some. Most recently with West Ham, where he scored 2 goals, Carew is still officially declared to play for Norway.

20. Angelos Charisteas

Age: 32 Nation: Greek A journeyman of European football who has goals in him - as Greek fans who rejoiced in the 2004 Euros win will testify - and who is now available on a free having recently left Panetolikos where he scored 4 goals in 24 appearances. He hasn't been prolific since 2006, but as a bench-warming option, you could do a lot worse. As I said, slim pickings when it comes to free transfer strikers. Other free strikers: Emile Mpenza (34), Adailton (35), Lucas Castroman (31) Did we miss any free agents you think should have been included? Share your own choices below in the comments...
