Football Manager 2014: 5 Super Amazing Ways SI Could Make It Great

4. Creative Contract Discussions

Screen Shot 2013-05-29 at 17.53.47 I won't take credit for this one, I saw it here and thought it was brilliant so just had to include it on this list. Basically the premise is simple and much like the other features I hope are included its main goal is to give 'freedom' to the player and open up the management style of each individual. During the managers contract negotiations on Football Manager 2013 you can discuss playing styles with your board, you can agree to what they say and/or include your own ethics that you will be judged on during your contract length. An example of this, and my 'as standard' policy is to"Sign young players for the first team". What the guys at My Passion for Football Manager want to see, and something I completely agree with, is the ability to add a shopping list to your contract negotiations. Say you're the manager of Arsenal and had many years of success bringing through younger players who are now dominating the English leagues but Real Madrid come calling, offering £150 million in transfer budget and a star-studded team, you want the job but can't face leaving the likes of Luke Shaw and WIll Hughes at Arsenal, so during your negotiations you can say to Real "If you sign these players for me, I will come". Solving both issues in one hit. To take that slightly further I think there is a potential to add other bargaining chips here. The job of your dreams comes up and you are offered it but they only have £3m to spend on transfers (must be Liverpool) and you need some extra funds to be able to have your input and turn around the teams' bad fortunes of late. Isn't it feasible to say "Ya'know what, I think I need £20 million to turn this team around but I reckon I could make a EUFA cup spot with that kind of dosh"? This type of negotiation is kind of already in the game, the formula for working out the seasons expectations is half way there so this could really happen, the problem for me though is that it would be a VERY good addition to the game and avid players like myself would want to see this sort of 'freedom' portrayed across all contract negotiations with players too. "Hey Mr Rooney, you will be a Key Player this year but I have some wonder-kid who I want to play a bit more next season so you may have to respect my rotation policy if you accept this contract" Just a thought.
