Football Manager 2014: 5 Super Amazing Ways SI Could Make It Great

2. Cut The Idiotic AI Out

Screen Shot 2013-05-29 at 17.55.39 This section could go on forever as there is lots of elements that for me are ridiculous with Football Manager 2013 but lets be constructive shall we. So here is the first situation, you're top of the Premier league by a long way, you have not lost a game for months but away to Crewe in the Capital One cup you are 3-0 down at half time! OMG? Been in this situation have you? Yes, of course, anyone who has played FM for any length of time has been exactly there. Now, being constructive I can see how a cup upset is always on the cards and football is never 'nailed on' but for me there has to be some form of quantifiable data, knowledge or output to explain it. Even if its your assistant saying " Yo, Chapman, I reckon you should play some fringe players who would have a better motivation in this game because the first team guys are a bit ignorant when coming up against these smaller teams and it may effect performance". The second situation is something that I touched on earlier, transfers. This is in two parts really and something that SI have to fix because it's not only frustrating as a player to spend all your money on scouting, finding gems and paying rip-off agent fees and then finding Falcao on the transfer list for the last day of the transfer window. It also detracts from real-life agenda, for example would Manchester City really buy Abou Diaby off me for £15m? Would Manchester United really spend £40m on Fellaini? in a word, no. After a few seasons you end up coming up against teams that contain very small amounts of players that they started off with and players that are really not up to scratch getting picked ahead of stars of the game, Man Utd seem to be really good at finding a reason not to play Wayne Rooney. Thirdly and it pains me to say it, FIFA have something in there game that I feel SI should pay attention to, an element that would add extra depth to FM, don't get me wrong I don't think this should be on the 'full game' but maybe in one of the challenges, that feature is Live Updates. So, if a player is doing well in real-life, his in-game form is good, if he is injured, he's injured. I can sense a few people disagreeing with me here, but let me in one sentence completely change your mind, guaranteed: How many times have you been playing Chelsea and Fernando Torres has won them the game? There you go, game, set and match. In real-life Torres couldn't score in Amsterdam but on FM he has hit 40 goals for Chlesea in the 12/13 season, what? Sort it out SI.
