2. More Licenses
Martin Rickett/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesWhen hipster-types or your creepy burlap sack-wearing neighbour tell us we're slaves to brands, they're actually right on the money. Everyone loves official stuff, adorned with the correct logos and sanctioned by whoever and whatever. You don't have to be ashamed of it it's just a mark of quality, and we all want the best deal. This probably applies double in gaming, and especially sports games. While many would probably deny it now, back in the days when FIFA was demonstrably inferior to Pro Evolution Soccer the reason many still flocked to EA's juggernaut was because they had all the licenses. While PES had some, it didn't matter Manchester United fans simply weren't interested in controlling Man Red, with their misspelt player names and Sunday League kit. They were willing to tolerate slightly worse gameplay for a bucketload more realism, and this kept the franchise going despite tepid reviews. FM should look at this and take lessons. While it's true that the game doesn't have a true rival in the way that PES was to FIFA pre-PS3/Xbox 360, this should breed complacency. Many players would gladly fall over themselves for proper licenses and kits for the Premier League and international sides and competitions, and while you can download fan-made equivalents, nothing beats the official product. Yes, the licenses are a small concern. However, it would go a long way if the developers could finally secure them.
