Weve reached the top. This is the single most infuriating thing that can occur in Football Manager. It happens countless times throughout your virtual career but it never gets any easier. The most frustrating thing is it usually happens when you could really use that goal. The cross comes in and flashes across the defender. Your striker has read it and gets there to first to rifle the ball past the goalkeeper. Cue wild celebrations (both in the game and in your living room), only for them to be cut short a full five seconds later as the offside flag appears on your screen. Your joy is replaced by an uncontrollable rage at the assistant referee as you scream obscenities at your screen while your mum checks you havent been bundled over by a house intruder. As they say, its the hope that kills you. Deep down, you already know the goal was offside but you dont want to believe it. You hope the assistant referee has missed it and the goal will stand, gifting your team a deserved victory. Of course this is never the case and that tiny virtual flag appears once again to ruin your day.
