9. Ron Vlaar (Free Agent)

You'll have to be patient with this one. Though Vlaar is a free agent, he'll always be ruled out until January through injury. In spite of that, his stats are outstanding for a centre-back, and he will take a wage as low as £25,000 a week due to his inactivity. If you're patient enough and bed him in gently following the injury, the Dutch international could be an absolute colossus at the back for the second half of the season and beyond. A two-year deal would be sensible given his age. Who knows? You could even sell him on for a tidy profit if you wish to do so.
