Club: Sporting Lisbon

Nationality: Uruguayan

Price: £25 million

For Premier League fans, there are few reasons to think that former Liverpool and Sunderland centre-back Sebastián Coates is worth having on your Football Manager 2022 radar.

In reality, the Uruguayan stopper is utterly unrecognisable from the player seen in the Premier League between 2011 and 2016. Since signing for Sporting Lisbon initially on loan in January '16, Coates has gone from strength to strength and marked himself as amongst the best 20 central defenders on the planet.

Without any sense of hyperbole, the 30-year-old CB is a great signing for any club on FM22. If you're in charge of an elite side, Coates provides a solid squad option. For those a little lower down the table, the 6'5" stopper can be a fantastic acquisition who will be a rock you can rely on for a good couple of seasons.

If he were five years younger, this Uruguay international would likely set you back a cool £70 million or so. As it is, his age means an offer of £25 million should be enough to get a deal done.
