For Honor: 10 Gameplay Features Ubisoft Didn't Tell You About
6. Incredibly Intricate, Challenging Combat
Combat in For Honor is extremely intricate – perhaps the most intricate of a game designed primarily as a Medieval MOBA. Before even entering the battlefield, the player has a chance to customise their warrior, with realistic and class appropriate weapons and armour that can be unlocked.
This makes a difference, and it is worth making sure your warrior is balanced with the others on your team. For every strength, there is a weakness, and an enemy ready to exploit it.
Combat revolves around moving your hero between high, medium and low stance – the former being the most attacking, but open to damage, while the latter gives you a better chance of deflecting attacks, but you'll be slower and weaker on the counter-attack. It's also important to move between stances when defending, matching that of your opponent to block incoming hits.
Combat relies partly on stats, but mostly on timing, reactions and out-thinking your opponent. Luring and feigns become crucial tactics as you tease your opponent into switching stances so you can counter them and strike the killing blow.
