After several delays, Fortnite Chapter 2's third season is finally here, and it's made quite the splash. Season 2 closed out with The Device, a live event that saw super-spy Midas unleash a mysterious machine which destroyed the Agency and turned the storm into a huge wall of water. It was one of the biggest events that Fortnite has ever held; over 12 million players attended the event, and at least 8 million more joined livestreams after being locked out when the event reached full capacity 30 minutes before it had even started.

Now that Season 3 has begun, the aftermath of The Device's cataclysm has been revealed. The water from the storm seems to have flooded in and submerged a huge portion of the battle royale island in one of the most drastic changes to the map since the start of the Chapter 2 reboot. The newly submerged island is only the start of the changes that Season 3 has brought with it, though - it's one of the biggest updates that Fortnite has ever seen, and there are plenty of new features to get stuck into on your way to the Victory Royale.

6. New Map

The most immediately obvious change in Season 3 is the new map, which has submerged almost the entire island underwater. While the mountainous regions to the southeast of the map have remained largely unscathed, several locations have now been submerged, including Craggy Cliffs, the Shark and Weeping Woods. Some locations like Sweaty Sands and Frenzy Farm have managed to survive by mounting their buildings on top of giant floating platforms, however.

The biggest new location to be introduced is the Fortilla, a sprawling compound floating along atop the sea filled with Henchmen, commanded by the new boss enemy Ocean who has some new mythic loot for you to grab if you can defeat her. The Agency has also been replaced with an imposing fortress called The Authority, and a new location called Catty Corner has appeared in the southeastern mountains, filled with robotic cat enemies.

Getting between all these locations is now very different too, as you'll be forced to swim or use a motorboat to traverse the wide stretches of ocean. Luckily, there's some nifty new ways of quickly getting around the island...
