Game Publishers Of 2019: 6 Biggest Winners & 6 Biggest Losers
2. Loser: Ubisoft
It looks like this was the year where the publisher’s one-fits-all formula finally plateaued.
Ubisoft's widespread approach of taking (almost) every IP they own, chucking it into an open-world full of busywork, launch bugs and blatant microtransactions, have slowly been irritating gamers for years.
Division 2 certainly was an improvement over the disappointing first, but when your best title of the year is a decent looter-shooter that undersold... that’s not saying much.
Far Cry: New Dawn was an unnecessary follow up to last year’s instalment, with it reusing the same map and bringing little new to the table. Trails: Rising squashed the fun out of the underrated series by shoehorning in unnecessary loot boxes.
The worst though was Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which was a barren, buggy mess filled with microtransactions galore. The game flopped due to their weak business moves and has put the major franchise on hiatus.
At least they have admitted to their recent failures. Let's hope they keep to their word...
