1. Fan Service Is Fun But Restrained

And finally, it would have been so easy for Gears 4 to be a relentless fan service-fest in order to ease the transition from Marcus to JD, but to The Coalition's credit, they actually take a much more restrained approach.

Yes, Marcus figures heavily in the game, but he's not overdone, and any references to other characters from the series mostly maintain their integrity rather than throwing it away in pursuit of a cheap moment of uproarious joy.

There's no medium more prone to overzealous fan-bait than video games, but titles like this opting for the more dignified approach provide some hope for the future.
