Many people look at the character designs, world aesthetic and general 'look' of Gears in-motion and write it off as this overly-macho excuse for big guns and buckets of blood, but all who've gone through it will know that yes, it is of course that, but it also has a lot of heart. Dom's big moment in Gears 3 really pulled at the heartstrings and was surprisingly effective when you least expected it - as was another scene with his wife in Gears 2 - but the big takeaway from this is moments like these are rarely represented when talking about the greatest emotional payoffs in the genre. With some more focus on exactly what makes guys like Marcus tick - as was seen a bit through Dom and Maria's relationship - that heart behind characters that are already beloved across all Xbox owners could be a huge source of appeal and drive when taking the fight to whatever's on the business end of your chainsaw later this year.
