Gears Of War 4: 10 Big Things That Must Happen

2. Refined Cover System

Easily the most identifiable trait of modern third person shooters and the thing that's most associated with Gears' gameplay in general - even though it actually originated elsewhere - the cover system Epic Games put into practice in the first game saw very little iteration across all three titles. To be honest it barely needed it, they managed to hit a home run right away and proceeded to do laps around the ballpark afterwards, rather than worrying about doing a suitable followup. Well, now's the time. Mass Effect 3 and the Uncharted series gave you the ability to kill from behind or around cover, and even the much lower-budget Dead to Rights let you straight up run over a wall separating you and an enemy to boot them square in the face. Chances are the kebab-legged COG soldiers aren't going to be scrambling over cover too fast, but if an enemy Locust closes the distance on you, there should be more effective ways to take them out than running in with just your chainsaw and good luck.
