Hacksilver is essential in God of War, and artifacts are easily the best way of earning massive amounts of it as fast as possible. If you're ever hard up, simply empty your inventory of these treasures.
Artifacts are found all over the game world of God of War and are almost always a part of one big set. The earliest example of this are the Lost Toys artifacts that can be found near Kratos' home.
