God Of War Ragnarok Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs (No Spoilers)
5. Unbelievably Gorgeous Presentation & Performance
You can see it in the screenshots; feel it in the gameplay trailers.
God of War Ragnarok's guts may have been designed on PS4 and "upscaled" or otherwise improved and reworked for PS5, but save for a few "corridor squeeze" loading sections, you wouldn't know it.
This is hands-down, the best showcase of what a PS5 can do so far. Everything from facial ticks to environments bursting with character and lore, to character models and stitches of clothing are rendered with an attention to detail only a tiny percentile of development teams can afford, or achieve.
Performance-wise, you have a handful of modes favouring resolution or performance, with an additional two "High Performance" toggles for those with HDMI 2.1, that lock in a hybrid of the two. I'm lucky enough to game on an LG CX with HDMI 2.1 and Variable Refresh Rate, so my experience was mostly spent in "High Performance Resolution", resulting in 1440p at unlocked 60fps.
