God Of War's Most Overlooked Character Could Be The Villain All Along

Kratos isn't the only parent with secrets.

For a character who died before the game even begins, it may surprise you just how important Kratos’ wife is to the story of God of War 4.

The 2018 reimagining of the iconic PlayStation series begins beautifully, with Kratos chopping down a tree marked with a golden handprint that he carries home to use as a funeral pyre for his deceased spouse. In an instantly powerful opening scene, Kratos cremates the body and, clearly in pain but unable to express it in conventional ways, barks at his son Atreus that they are going hunting, to prepare his son physically for the long perilous journey that they are about to embark on.

Immediately, the two begin their great quest to scatter her ashes. But who was Kratos’ wife, and why does he need to travel so far to lay her to rest? What woman managed to take the intense fire and fury of the spartan god of war, and create this mourning, solemn, fatherly figure we see before us now?

Kratos isn't the only parent with secrets.
