Grand Theft Auto 6: 5 Time Periods Rockstar MUST Consider

2. The Future

The best sci-fi stories are never just about fantastical technology or space exploration. Truly great science-fiction stories take us forward to fictional futures in order to reflect upon their past, and our present.

GTA has always taken a somewhat similar approach to sci-fi in its lampooning of modern cultures and societies. This approach to world-building makes the exploration of a near-future in GTA 6 feel like an entirely likely possibility.

Of course, nobody expects Rockstar to steal any of Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming limelight. The exploration of a future just beyond our present has the potential to be every bit as layered and thought-provoking as one decades ahead.

Crafting a fictional sci-fi world would also give Rockstar more freedom than ever to truly experiment with their now-legendary open world design. Give the guys who make some of the richest playgrounds in all of videogames freedom to make their own entirely original world? Now that has the makings of a truly exciting GTA title - something previously explored in GTA2.

Hovercars, laser guns and cybernetic implants - all topped off with Rockstar's signature darkly-comedic polish. You're drooling too, aren't you?
