This upcoming generation is a rather bizarre case as nobody is quite sure how big the leap forwards in graphics is going to be. Whereas last generation we could see that we were going from most games being around 720p to 1080p, the newest consoles are bragging about their 4K capabilities despite the fact that consoles like the Xbox One X have been able to play titles in 4K for three years now.

Therefore it is crucial that game developers like Rockstar make older games like Grand Theft Auto V absolutely perfect in the graphics department. It'd frankly be embarrassing if these new machines couldn't run a SEVEN year old game in full 4K, and it would hurt the perception of the new consoles in the eyes of the masses.

Furthermore, Rockstar will have an easy selling point if they can point to the game being fully rendered in 4K, so they'll likely be losing out on a wealth of customers if they fail to follow through.
