GTA: 5 Reasons Rockstar's Crime Fest Will Have No Staying Power

2. It's Already Dated

GTA 1998 - 3 Seriously, look at it. This top down view is so 1993. It's 1998 now, and we know the PlayStation to be capable of so much more. Just look at the outstanding 3D environments of Quake II. Brand new hardware has also starting pushing boundaries further than ever before, such as Nintendo's bet-you-can't-see-individual-pixels 64. With Grand Theft Auto's sequel rumoured to be another top-down affair, surely this lack of innovation will spell the death of the game.

1. The Moral Backlash

GTA 1998 - 5 Probably the hardest one to come back from. With high-minded parents and legal eagles alike proclaiming games like this are responsible for the decay of modern youth, it's the worst kind of PR. Would the next game even get banned? Sure, this adds a kind of sub-level cool credential to the title, but let's be honest, it will do nothing for the sales. Unless some radical innovations take place, Grand Theft Auto is certain to be one of those old games that sinks without a trace. The competition is getting ridiculous, and games are going in directions never even thought possible before. With titles like Unreal and Metal Gear Solid on the horizon, DMA Design certainly have their work cut out. What do you think about the Grand Theft Auto 2 rumours? Can it really thrive amongst its competitors? Would you even want it to? Let us know below!
