GTA 6: 10 Hottest New Rumours You're Not Supposed To Know
2. A Surprise 2017 Release Date
The original PS2 trilogy released in 2001, 2002 and 2004, with GTA IV in 2008 and GTA V in 2013. However, considering the amount of money Rockstar have put into perfecting their 'RAGE' technology (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine), at this stage it should be a case of applying it to sequels, and turning them around in a slightly faster fashion.
Now, Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick did note that the teams could annualise their games (and in fact, get asked many times as to why they don't), stating that hanging back "create[s] anticipation and demand". He makes a very good point, looking at GTA V's sales, but we're coming up on three years without a sequel now, and if you do the maths between releases, we can safely assume 2017 could be a surprise release date for the next full instalment.
Rockstar aren't ones for lengthy PR cycles. Rather like Bethesda, they're very much a "Here's what we've been working on, it's almost finished, you can buy it in a couple of months" kind of developer. All of this factors into 2017 being the year for Rockstar to surprise everyone.
