GTA 6: 8 Current Gaming Trends Rockstar Must AVOID

4. Favouring Multiplayer Add-Ons Over Expanding Single Player

At one point in time, Rockstar were set to release single-player DLC for GTA 5. Sadly for us, in between remastering the game for next-gen systems, GTA Online taking off like nothing else and development of Red Dead Redemption 2 needing more resources, it was slowly pushed to the wayside.

Design Director Imran Sarwar noted that this "was not a conscious decision, it just happened" (which is more than fair in the world of business), but it subtly points to the underlying problem: GTA Online's fruition took priority over single-player at some point, and whichever stories were planned for Michael, Trevor and Franklin, were left on the cutting room floor.

For whatever reason we've never seen Rockstar revisit this stuff either, as Sarwar also addressed that the last time they released DLC for GTA 4, it "fractured the fanbase". Whether you agree or not on that game's add-ons, there has to be a conversation around how to support the part of the game we truly invest in; the characters, fiction, open-world art direction etc. over time, vs. the ultimately "throwaway" parts of online multiplayer.
