GTA 6: 8 Things It Must Learn From Red Dead Redemption 2
7. Invest Heavily In The Characters
In GTA 5, we didn't have massively deep backgrounds for Michael, Trevor and Franklin. We had a brief description of them, and that was it.
RDR2 changed things up by delivering quite detailed backstories for almost every character - even including John Marston. This is something Rockstar absolutely have to continue when it comes to GTA 6.
They don't necessarily need to bring back old characters from previous games, but they do need to put more time towards their backgrounds and motivations. Knowing every little detail about these characters we're playing as and interacting with makes for a more enjoyable experience while playing.
RDR2 was a clear example that Rockstar have grown in the character development department, and that perhaps they've realised not everyone can just be a troubled person and turn to a life of crime for no real reason. The way they handled Arthur Morgan's journey towards becoming a complex character made the game flow much better than it perhaps would have.
