GTA 6: Everything We Know So Far
7. Development Restarted In 2021
They've got a long road of development ahead too.
Rumours popped up late-last year suggesting that GTA 6 was in "development hell". That...was not the news gamers wanted to hear, but there's more to the story than first appears. Former Vice President of Creativity Dan Houser left Rockstar behind in 2020, and that kickstarted all sorts of scuttlebutt.
The truth is that Rockstar will plough on without Houser (his brother, Sam, is still with the company) and go forwards with GTA 6. There's a lot of cash on the table here, people - one person leaving, no matter how important, was never going to totally detail the next Grand Theft Auto.
Things reignited on the development front in 2021. That might put Rockstar slightly behind schedule when it comes to announcing things like trailers, nailed-on release dates etc, but maybe not. It is, however, known that Dan took an extended break from working in 2019 before departing the following year.
Things are rolling again, at least.
