1. Grand Theft Auto
Come on now, what else was going to win? It might not be the ultimate no-holds-barred auto-vehicular carnage fest on paper, especially when lined up against other titles that embrace the spirit of violence more openly, but every GTA game offers a bubbling under-current of vehicular violence that most players will give in to at one point or another. Whether it is mowing down unsuspecting civilians or police officers, or ramming other cars and trucks out of the way as you streak across the city with eyes firmly set on the prize, there are ample opportunities to turn even the slowest and unspectacular car into a weapon of mass destruction. Such is the depth of gameplay and availability of missions in the sandbox epics that it's possible to spend hours mindlessly driving around the cities causing untold and unprovoked carnage with whichever vehicle you get your grubby hands on. And that's why GTA wins this particular poll: almost all of the other titles included offer violence as a means to an end - usually some award or victory or other - but the GTA games offer the opportunity to wreak havoc without aim. The only reward of this sandbox vehicular violence is the violence itself, which is exactly why so many people think the franchise is the Most Evil Thing Ever. A worthy winner.
