10. Batman:Arkham Origins
The previous instalment, Arkham City, is widely and rightly considered to be one of the best games ever for its sheer scope and ambition. A fully layered and realised portrayal of Gotham City, complete with the most realistic Caped Crusader gameplay yet, it was always going to be a hard act to follow-especially considering the moving death of Mark Hamill's Joker at the climax. How to top it? Go back to the start. ...Origins sees a more fresh-faced Batman battling eight assassins determined to break The Bat, and features the welcome inclusion of the underused comic staple Mad Hatter. The game retains the dankness of the more beloved Batman titles of recent years, while whacking up the hysteria level tenfold. It plays to the key strengths of previous Arkham titles, while expanding the story and Gotham City itself. Were this not enough to incite fanboy drooling, the game also has the most detailed portrayal of Batman's hub, the Batcave, yet. All this and extra iconic villains available on pre-order, and a bulky special edition on general release means that DC's finest has deservedly made a huge dent in the autotheft domination of the gaming market.
