10 Things That Almost Completely Changed GTA History

10. It Almost Didn't Happened At All

It's a well established fact that the original GTA was a labour of love, which was stuck in developmental hell for a significant period as its production through up some massive issues that developers struggled to deal with. And according to former DMA developer Gary Penn, who worked on the game in the early days, the problems were so big, that the publisher BMG Interactive almost pulled the plug entirely.
€œIt was a real mess for years, it never moved on, it never went anywhere... It was almost canned. The publisher wanted to can it, as it didn't seem to be going anywhere.€
Chief among the problems was a fairly severe issue with loading...
€œThere are probably two key things it fell down on. One of them is stability, which is a really boring one but it crashed all the f*cking time. The other thing that was a problem was the handling - the car handling was appalling.€
Thankfully, the issues were eventually ironed out, and as we've already mentioned in our Mind-Blowing Facts run-down, the early glitches actually inspired a key element of the game, and one of it's most enduring characteristics, as Penn went on to say... €œOne day, I think it was a bug, the police suddenly became mental and aggressive. Their route finding was screwed I think and that was an awesome moment because suddenly the real drama where, 'Oh my God, the police are psycho - they're trying to ram me off the road.'€
