10 Things That Almost Completely Changed GTA History
8. No Women Or Animals Were Injured In The Making Of GTA IV
One thing conspicuously missing from most of the GTA universe is gender diversity in major characters there have of course been some GTA ladies, but they tend to represent things rather than being actually authentic female characters in themselves. They were always prostitutes, love interests, that sort of thing, and curiously, though they were initially intended in GTA IV, it wasn't until GTA V that they appeared as a visible presence in the police force. In the original plans for IV, female police officers were intended to appear, and while the suggestion (from the image above, at least) is that lady cops will appear in GTA V, those plans have never come to fruition in III or subsequent releases. Quite why the female presence was cut remains to be seen, but female response voices can be heard when the player's Wanted level rises, and of course Barbara Schternvart is a deputy sheriff, even if she's never seen on the job. Interestingly, the game was also set for K-9 response units that would appear on the 1 star wanted level, but they never made it to the final game, probably because killing animals is considerably more frowned upon than killing human cops in the crazy world of GTA morality.
