1. "Cowardly"

"Art is about taking risks. You will never advance the art form without taking risks. GTA 5, is a commercial project that will sell millions of copies just based on its brand, and is in the position to have their cake and eat it too by taking risks and having the product automatically sell, yet it takes no risks. That to me is cowardly. It is formulaic and the storytelling components are no more intriguing than your par for the course television crime show. Now honestly think to yourself, would you watch a television series based on this game written by the same writers and actors? If you said yes, you seriously need to get paddled and forced to watch Breaking Bad. Shame on game journalists for giving this mediocre game and series yet another pass, while proving once again that there really is no such thing as game journalism."
You have to love this sort of grand, sweeping judgement, opening with the kind of philosophically grand-standing statement you could imagine emblazoned on the T-shirt of the worst kind of person, and ending with another equally sweeping criticism that seeks to disintegrate an entire industry with one entitled flourish of the keyboard. Did They Play? It's difficult to tell: the opening gambit that GTA V "will sell millions" suggests the opinion was a forgone conclusion long before the game was released, and the statements likening the game to a TV crime show are just sweeping enough to suggest no actual time was spent in the game, but this is a tough one to call. As with any statement invested in self-righteous anger, the reality of the writer can hide behind a pseudo-intellectual facade, because the writer will never open themselves to any accusations of willful ignorance. But we'll say no, because reductive generalisation seems to be the order of the day. Diagnosis Some people just don't like GTA - notice the comment about the series being "mediocre" that completely contradicts the user's wish for more progression in the series. This is clearly the type of player who hates Call Of Duty for its commercial success, without ever playing it, and who probably discovered Breaking Bad years before you started watching it, even if you saw the first episode when it first aired, because they are a real Trend Identifier and Setter. There is nothing mediocre about GTA, which the poster proves by giving a troll-like 0 rating, and the accusation that a game based on criminality, which casts aside the developer's former manifesto to make the franchise more serious is "safe" is simply ridiculous. Go home, trolls, you're not welcome here. Have you seen any other ridiculous reviews that completely (and consciously) misjudged GTA V? Share your own finds below in the comments thread.
