18. Custom Radio
Those who play GTA on their PCs are already able to listen to their own personal music collection while simultaneously playing the game, but the console gamers have been stuck with what Rockstar gave them. Don't get me wrong: since the beginning, GTA has bestowed upon us some of the best soundtracks gaming has ever known. Even before they were able to license major label tracks, Rockstar constructed some of the most memorable radio stations outside of (and including) actual commercial radio. They've resurrected and re-popularized a huge number of forgotten gems. They've exposed millions of people to genres of music they wouldn't otherwise have bothered to listen to, let alone appreciate. K-DST reinvigorated my appreciation for classic rock, and I still stand by my opinion that Craig Gray's Fade Away" is a stand-out that could hold its own beyond GTA III (with a little more polish in the studio, perhaps). But eventually you'll have heard everything, and certain stations will bother you more than others - I've played the game for months on end with the music turned off entirely. Now would be a great time for some new sounds, right? Well, smartphones are also audio players, and lots of cars have MP3 player hookups these days. Why can't the main character plug his phone into the car stereo and play his favorite tunes?
