14. Wildlife

As Rockstar proved with Red Dead Redemption, they can faithfully represent wilderness just as well as the urban jungle. If Los Santos is to be accurate, there are plenty of wild animals that live in the hills surrounding the city, and there will likely be scores more inhabiting the mountains and forests that are referenced in the trailer. Here is where I propose a change from Red Dead Redemption: coming into contact with wild animals in GTA V would be a rare thing, as it is in real life today. The likelihood of anyone running into a mountain lion is low, and it should be in the game as well. Have it be a fantastic surprise to see a large predator, or even a docile deer. In fact, you could potentially play through the game three or four times before you'd see so much as a coyote sprint across a country road, something as unique as a large wild cat even less frequently. If any of you have ever felt the shock and panic of a deer stepping in front of your car as you careen along a dark highway - those eyes glowing back at you as the animal freezes and you frantically decide between slamming on the brakes, steering wildly out of the way, or just doing both - then you can imagine the thrill it would bring in the game. And the damage to your car should be reflected in the impact! A big buck can render a car un-drivable, and the deer may still go bounding off into the dark!
