GTA VI: 10 Huge Rumours You’re Not Supposed To Know
10. Finally A Female Protagonist - Voiced By Eva Mendez
GTA V got a lot of semi-justified flak for its depiction of women. The female characters you interact with are made up of prostitutes, sluts, and idiots - like Franklin's aunt - caught up in confused ideas of a New Age-tinted feminism. With that said, it'd have felt contrived to present women as proud, empowered individuals in GTA's world - where men are mostly reduced to criminals, psychopaths, slobs and morons. GTA's brilliance lies in its no-holds-barred piss-take of every layer of society, and there's no reason why women should be excluded. The only people who seem vaguely sane in the GTA games are the protagonists. They're the vessel through which we laugh at the absurdity of everything around them, and offer us someone to relate to in its warped world. For these reasons, the series needs to introduce a female protagonist. If the rumours are to be believed, then GTA VI will feature none other than Ryan Gosling's partner, Eva Mendes, in a starring role. The choice of Mendes should give some idea of the kind of female hero we can expect. Mendes is a strong, husky actress who could easily turn on the attitude required for a GTA lead. Given Mendes is of Cuban descent, it seems likely that her character would be of latino descent. The series is just as overdue for a Mexican-American or Cuban-American protagonist as it is for a female one, so Mendes would fit the bill perfectly... a Cuban-American protagonist in modern-day Vice City, perhaps?
