It's been theorised that GTA V attempted to give gamers a little bit of everything when it came to the main characters. Franklin Clinton, Trevor Philips and Michael De Santa were all representative of previous characters in the GTA universe. In the case of Michael, he was fairly similar to Tommy Vercetti, and all the better for it. There was something likeable about Michael, despite his obvious problems. Attempting to kiss goodbye to his criminal past, De Santa is sucked back into a life of crime by Franklin. Things get worse when his old friend, Trevor shows up. Rockstar managed to make Michael a perfect middle man between the youthful exuberance of Franklin, and the madcap mayhem of the aging Trevor. The result is one of the most well-rounded characters in GTA history. Obviously, the ending to GTA V is entirely dependent on player choice. Towards the end of the game, players could choose to kill Michael. That may deter Rockstar from using him in GTA VI, but it shouldn't be forgotten how pivotal a role his broken-down family life and eagerness to walk away from crime played in V's story. Michael has a lot more to offer, even in an advisory role to the protagonist(s).
