GTA VI: 8 Hot New Rumours You Need To Know
4. It May Have Run Into Budget Woes
Grand Theft Auto V arrived way back in 2013 - which seems like eons ago - and given the game's phenomenal success, the lack of official sequel talk from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive is curious.
The studios will have you believe it's because they're focusing on GTA Online updates and Red Dead Redemption 2, but some are putting it down to GTA VI running into budget issues, which isn't a huge stretch since number crunching by Neurogadget has pegged its cost at somewhere in the region of $300 million.
GTA V's development costs racked up at around $265 million, but the addition of new features such as the rumoured full virtual reality headset support are expected put the cost of its sequel into the stratosphere.
The report has sparked speculation that wrestling with the bloated budget has led to delays in the game's production and Rockstar keeping a tight lid on its GTA VI plans.
More feasibly, the studio is concerned that announcing the sequel could impact on the steady stream of revenue GTA V is still generating.
Money is unlikely to be a roadblock for a series like Grand Theft Auto - the last instalment raked in a whopping $800 million within 24 hours of release.
